CV format for jobs in Dubai & the UAE
A practical guide to what employers in the United Arab Emirates expect on your CV.
A UAE CV differs from a typical Western résumé. Recruiters in the region expect a few extra personal details up front, alongside the usual experience and education. Here's what to include.
1. A professional photo
Unlike many Western markets, a head-and-shoulders photo is standard on a UAE CV. Use a clear, professional image — our builder includes a photo by default for the UAE.
2. Personal details UAE recruiters look for
Include the details below near the top of your CV. All are optional in our editor except where noted, so you stay in control of what you share.
- Nationality (recommended) — e.g. e.g. Indian, British, Filipino
- Visa / residency status — e.g. Select or type your status
- Date of birth — e.g. DD/MM/YYYY
- Gender
- Marital status
- Driving licence — e.g. Select or type
- Availability / notice period — e.g. e.g. Immediately, 1 month notice
- References
3. Languages
List languages with your proficiency (e.g. "English — Fluent", "Arabic — Native"). Arabic ability is a plus for many roles in the UAE, even when not required.
4. A clear, ATS-friendly layout
Many UAE employers screen applications with Applicant Tracking Systems. Keep headings standard (Profile, Experience, Education, Skills), use selectable text rather than images, and export a clean PDF — which our builder does automatically.
5. Keep it concise
Two pages is the norm for experienced professionals; one page for graduates. Lead with a short profile summary tailored to the role.
